Stretching across a vast swath of territory to the north of Bretony and its provinces, the nation of Arcadia has been the uncontested power in its section of the Isles for more than a millenium. For much of its history Arcadia was a belligerent and xenophobic empire, expanding its power by conquering neighboring nations and enslaving their populations to work them to death for the emperor. More recently the royal family was overthrown and a parliament established to rule over Arcadia, and its rapid expansion was stymied by widespread corruption and inefficiency. While the new government has curbed a number of the country’s more horrifying excesses, its economy still relies largely on the institution of slavery, and Arcadia remains one of the largest slaver states in the Endless Isles.
Recently the Arcadian Third Fleet has moved into position off the coast of Galway, and Arcadian slavers and privateers have been raiding Gallic vessels and settlements. This aggression came to a head when the Arcadian military invaded and occupied Rathlin, the far northern isle of Galway. In response Bretony mobilized its own navy and for several years now the two major powers have been staring each other down across the Gallic channel. Should the confrontation ever escalate into war, the waters of Galway will run red.
